Fast Fest,

Japanese Auto Extravaganser,

European Drift Championship & Time Attack Round 3, Round 3 of the 2007 European Drift Championship travels to Knockhill in Scotland. Knockhill holds a special place in all the drivers’ hearts both on and off the track. The perfect setting for the penultimate round of the 2007 championship.

The EDC section of Knockhill starts from just before the start line, accelerating to over 100MPH then sideways into the blind Seat curves. The drivers would then have to make a high speed switchback from right to left whilst being careful not to take the tight line which initially looks to be the safer line. A second transition is made into Scotsman corner. Scotsman looks like a simple task but Chief Judge Hiroki Furuse stated that for maximum points, the rear wheels of the car must touch the outside curbing before entering the corner. This maximises the speed around the corner and makes the transition from Seat curves to Scotsman Corner very technical. But makes alsome viewing, well worth the trip to knockhill.

Confirmed dates for 2008:

E-News Letter (No 3)

Performance Tuning Modified Show, a new show for 2007 held at Santa Pod raceway on 5th - 6th May 2007 saw some great action on and off the track. The first day of PTM Show got under way with the cream of Eastern and European cars taking to the strip with a storming 8.357s @ 164.86mph from Tim Webster, followed by an 8.545s @ 160.04mph from Andy Barnes, both driving Nissan skylines. On the Sunday the track time was split between RWYB sessions and the HKS Drag Series for Japanese Cars with good times being run by both groups. There were also plenty of demo vehicles on the track with The Fireforce Jet Car, Top Methanol Dragster, Pro Mod, Top Fuel Bike, Pro Stock Bike, Funny Bike and The crazey Taz team with their tyre smoking, wheeling fiat 500s all impressing the crowds. Off track action included the live stage with dancers and DJs plus the Miss PTM competition which was won Kelly Botterill, drifting, EMMA Sound Off and pole dancing. The Best Club Stand award went to SIDC who had nice cars nicely parked.

Redline Rumble, Unfortunately Redline God of the Pod 2007 on Sunday 13th May was a complete washout due to persistent rain all day. Still made very entertaining drifiting in the live action arena and plenty of nice cars to check out in the Show and Shine.

Modified Nationals, This year Modified Nationals moved to the East of England Showground, which made the perfect venue for this show, as passed years the car clubs and traders turned up in force filling the show ground, not even the rain kept them away. There was as always some top night time entertainment from Fast Car Magazine, Godskitchen & Liquid. Next years show has now been confirmed for the weekend of 24th & 25th May 2008.

Japanese Tuning Show, another new show for 2007 held at Silverstone, with the organisers from JAE & Donny teaming with Banzai magazine they brought us a quailty new show with a really good turn out. JTS also played home to Round 2 of the European Drift Championship and Time Attack.

European Drift Championship Round 2

The Top 16 saw Maciej Polody return to Silverstone after missing the first round at Donington in May, he found himself up against newbie licence holder Steve Carter who came from the reserves list into the top 16 after Declan Hicks had Clutch trouble after Qualifying, Steve was on form and his driving was good but not good enough to see off the Polish Polody who seemed to be driven by the devil! Steve was knocked out, Polody moved on, Phil Morrison, last years champ had car troubles too in qualifying and managed to use his back up HCR32 Skyline against Pete Barber in a battle for a top 8 place, both drivers were faultless and Phil pipped Pete top a top 8 slot despite being without his new S15 weapon.

Ben 'Bon Bon' Broke Smith took on Northern Irelands's latest arrival to the series Alan McCord, Bons black Chaser was no match for Alan in his S15, Bon being familiar with the high speed circuit at Silverstone took the win and advanced, Mark Luney in the SVA imports 350z was up against Mark 'The cowboy' Buckle in the DCY HCR32, Luney finally seemed to gel with the car after the SVA team changed the suspension set up and tyre choice to Toyo R888 , he was on serious form to dispose of Buckle pushing the SVA team into the top 8.

A crowd favourite from 2006 Steve 'Stiggy' Evans was up next against kiwi Tony Green in the black Whifbitz FD3S, again both drivers were drove amazing but Stiggy's little rocket starlet was having difficulty matching the grunt of the big powered FD and Tony took the smoke machine into the next round by a whisker after Stiggy dropped a point with an early initiation on his lead run causing him to take a defensive line through Brooklands.

Chris 'Paz' Parry was up next against the north east's Niall Gunn, Paz was smoking in qualifying and looked set to go higher this round, The Toyota AE86 of Parry has outstanding grip levels but relatively low horsepower compared to the rest of the field, with what looked like a missed gear Paz fell behind and couldn't make the speed up to challenge Gunn, he fell behind leaving Gunn to take the victory and a place in the next session.

Next up was a battle of the Nissan S13's, the bright orange machine of James 'Bladerider' Grimsey and the purple weapon of Ian Harrison, James drove like his life depended on it but Ian was on top form and after a gravel trap visit from James stole the top 8 placing with some outstanding driving, Bladey was out!

Two of the series hottest drivers had the final battle in the top 16, Brett Castle in the red S14 Silvia up against a troubled James Hudson, James managed to get the car back together after his turbo trouble in qualifying only to make a silly mistake with a trip to the gravel on Brooklands corner, Brett was through and as usual was on a mission!

The top 8 saw more blistering battles with Polody knocking out the 2006 champ Morrison after 6 runs to chants from the crowd of  'One more time', Mark Luney snatched a top 4 place from the clutches of Bon Bon who seemed to be constantly tinkering with the car on the start line after each run, Tony Green disposing of Niall Gunn despite a gravel excursion and Brett Castle beating Ian Harrison into submission.

Polody who was now running low on rubber after the earlier Morrison battle found himself up against the number 3 SVA car driven by Luney, Polody seemed to have the edge over the 350z with high entry speeds, oustanding angle and when Luney took the leads Polody shadowed him through plumes of tyre smoke.

The other semi final saw Tony Green up against seasoned vet Castle, Castle drove like a robot on automatic pilot and could not put a foot wrong, Green too was on form but with mid corner corrections his drive was more unstable that Brett and the ice man Castle took a place in the finals up against Polody.

As the cars were ready to do battle Castle had to make a decision. During earlier runs the car was suffering with high temperatures, did he take the chance and go head to head with Polody in a fight to the bitter end isking his car or did he bow out gracefully and forfeit the battle with Polody?

Common sense won over and Brett announced his retirement from the competition, Polody had taken the win and a well deserved win it was too!

Throughout the whole weekend Polody had been like a man possessed, and it was clear he had one thing and one thing only on his mind, to make the long trip back to Poland with the first place trophy and a maximum of 20 points to his name!

Time Attack Round 2

Pro Class Winners

(L-R Olly Clark 2nd / Clive Seddon 1st / Steve Guglielmi 3rd)

Club Challenge Naturally Aspirated Winners

(L-R Dixon Cheng 2nd / Nadine Geary 1st / Simon Miskelly 3rd)

Club Challenge Forced Induction Winners

(L-R Kev Atkins 2nd / Ron Kiddell 1st / Sam Kerr 3rd)

After Round 1 at Donington, a slight change was made to the Club Challenge practice session whereby the cars were split into two groups to allow the faster cars from previous experience to go out without bothering the slightly slower machines and vice versa, this worked very well with some very quick times coming out very early on in the day from the club drivers. In Club Forced Induction class a pattern was emerging in  which was going to keep everyone on their toes all day, George Beavers of DCY, Kev Atkins & Ron Kiddell seemed to have their own little battles going on and smart money would have gone on George to take the win in the finals, in the last practice session he posted a blistering 1:04.999 which was equal to some of the times being achieved in Pro at the time, both Kev and Ron were consistent with 1:05 second laps becoming the norm, further down the field times were also very close with under 3 seconds seperating 5th and 22nd place drivers! As the heat and the pressure rose in the finals, Ron Kiddell in his R32GTR managed to pull a 1:04.927 out of the hat which was enough to secure a top step on the podium, Kev Atkins consistent 1:05's saw him take second place behind the wheel of his silver flying machine Evo 6 with 1:05.413, third place went to Sam Kerr in his Subaru Impreza with a 1:06.220, unfortunately George Beavers suffered with a misfire in his awesome DCY R32GTR and finished 6th with 1:06.896 just behind Kev Horsley in another Subaru Impreza posting a 1:06.863.

In the Club N/A class we saw the welcome return to Time Attack of Nadine Geary of Dodge Viper fame, Silverstone being a power circuit, suited the Viper and Nadine down to the ground and her times certainly proved it! Starting the day with just a mere 1 second lead over the other N/A cars she astounded everyone with a fantastic 1:06.312 in the final, just over 4 seconds ahead of Dixon Cheng and Simon Miskelly in the Honda Integra's who had both been lingering around the 1:10 / 1:11 marker all day, Jeff Mileham in his BMW 3 series was slightly off the pace but given the that the next two rounds are at the more intricate technical circuits of Knockhill and Brands Hatch the race for overall victory will be an exciting one for sure and there is still everything to play for so watch this space!

The heat managed to claim a few casualties on the day with only 28 of the club challenge drivers finishing out of the 31 which stared the day!

For the pro class it had to be the most exciting round yet with fractions of a second separating the whole grid all day.

Back on form after a disasterous round 1 were the RC Developments team with the bright Yellow Evo 6 driven by Clive Seddon, an outstanding display of man and machine in perfect harmony, Clive held the record for Silverstone in 2006 setting a 1:01 benchmark, it has to be said that if there was a little less heat & more grip available that he would have smashed the record with ease.

Also on form were Steve Guglielmi in his Audi powered Elise S1 and Olly 'sideways' Clark both posting constant 1:02's throughout the day as was Simon Norris until a holed block forced him to retire after qualifying 2nd for the super battle!

Zen Performance's baby blue GC8 made it to round 2 despite a fire at Japfest at Castle Coombe circuit earlier in the month, without Matt Allison or Phil Glew behind the wheel the job was handed over to John Felstead to keep the Zen flag flying and the points rolling in, he didn't fail to impress posting an outstanding 1:02.110 in the finals taking 4th place and a valuable 7 points making Zen & Roger Clark Motorsport join first in the points table after this round.

Martin Green and Adrian Smith were putting in some good times finishing 5th & 6th and Darren Robinson in the Whifbitz RX7 showed his true colours finishing 7th.

The earlier glimmer of success from Rob Barnes in the Sumo Evo 8 was overshadowed by a oil pipe problem meaning that he finished in 8th in front of Andy Harvey in 9th & Renton in 10th.

Jap Show, Since the first JapShow at Santa Pod Raceway in 2003 the scene has continued to grow at an astonishing rate which climaxed at JapShow Finale 2006 with the first ever European 8 second runs from a four wheel drive car. As well as Tim Webster's 8's, another eight cars put in 9 second runs to ensure the fastest and best Jap event ever. Unfortunately the racing at JapShow 2007 was rained off. Once again the the Drift boys put on a great demo in the live action arena, loving the on off showers, saving them tyres.

Coming up in the next months: Fast Fest, JAE, TOTB & USC

CruiseSport April

E-News Letter (No 2)

The last month has been very busy, Fast show at Santa Pod Raceway was a great start to the season seeing lots or new cars in the show and shine, and endless great times being set on the Drag Strip, the attendance figure for this show are just getting better and better, Check out the review at www.thefastshow.com and make sure you dont miss Redline Rumble in May. Also coming up in May is a new event for Santa Pod The Performance, Tuning & Modified Show this will include the first round of the HKS Drag series, PTM Show will see Europe's quickest tuned cars side by side on the track as they compete across 3 classes in the first round of the HKS Drag Series for Japanese cars.

Make sure you don't miss Tim Webster in the Duke Racing-GTC Skyline GT-R33, which broke the record for the quickest 4WD drag car in europe at last years Jap Show Final at Santa Pod Raceway in October. Tim managed to do at ¼ mile in 8.808 sec @162mph. If you didn't see the Duke on our stand at Auto sport International in January make sure you check it out at PTM.

Early in April we attended the Donny North show at Donington Park Racing Circuit. We had the opertunity to work with BP who were through out the weekend running live tests using a specially tuned Porsche GT2 accelerating up to 130 mph on a rolling road. Comparing the car's performance on 102 with regular 98 RON fuel, they were repeating thier lab tests which showed power gains of up to 100bhp - a spectacular increase that would cost many thousands of pounds to achieve through engine tuning accessories. If you missed them at Donny look out for them at shows other shows coming soon, the demo is very impressive. Or check out there website www.bpultimateevents.co.uk

The BP Ultimate 102 team were supporting the ever-popular Donny Public Track Time sessions, and gave away 30 slots over the weekend, Cruisesport were there taking the BP team out in the GT-C demo cars. showing the high octane 102 performance on Donington Park's Circuit.

The Donny North Show also played home to the first round of the European Drift Championship and Time Attack, on the famous Donnington Park Circuit The first round of the European Drift Championship was held over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend at Donington Park in association with the ISTS Donny Show 2007. Blessed with fantastic weather throughout the weekend, the action qicked of on the friday with licencing taking place at drift central. An exciting few days of competition with many unexpected results gave everybody the impression that the 2007 European Drift Championship is something to keep an eye on, each and every round. The finals turned out to be a clear cut decision with John Power making a big mistake on run 1 giving an 8-2 advantage to Johnston. Power was well aware of the situation and made a daring move to try and turn the match around. This however did not pay off resulting in further mistakes by Power and crowning Mark Johnston of Weston Performance the winner of Round 1. The first round of Time Attack saw full grids and with a fantastic track waiting the weekend couldn't of started any better. First thing Saturday morning was a sight, the entire Paddock area filled with the best tuned cars in the country, there was a real buzz of excitement going around and a clean sheet for 2007 One by one the cars lead out and Donington burst into action with the enormous roar of a few thousand horsepower rumbling its away around the track. At the end of the weekend we saw a awlsome battle for the top 3 postions in all the different classes.

CruiseSport Jamuary - March

E-News Letter (No 1)

After several months we have finally got the e-mail system working again, so we thought we should update our members to what we have been upto and what is coming up in 2007. If you can't remember how to log into the CruiseSport forum please e-mail steve@cruisesport.com to have it reset. The CruiseSport team has spent most of the winter out in the cold. We have been attending the little cruises all around the county with the guys and girls from streetlife. We were given a warm welcome at all the cruises we attended and look forward to see a lot of you again at various events this season.

Cruisesport once again had a stand at Autosport International at Birmingham NEC. Based in Hall 20 in the main part of the surrounded by Le Mans cars and the Wales Rally stand we spent a very long weekend talking to thousands of visitors to the show. We have got to say a massive Thank You to Ben Linney from GT-Culture who supplied us with a Light Weight Edition EVO 8 & Blaupunkt GTC Honda Integra DC5, Tim Webster with his Record Breaking Duke Racing Skyline & the guys from Rogue Motorsport for there Time Attack and Toyota Racing Development MR2's. We had the company of the lovley Nikki Lee and Lisa Stanger. Helping to pull even more attention to the stand.

We are now looking forward to the season kicking of at The Fast Show at Santa Pod Raceway on Sunday 25th March. Which always is a cracking show with lots of new projects being let out for testing on the great 1/4 mile drag strip at Pod. We will then be heading to Donnington Park Racing Circuit for Donny 2007 on The 7th & 8th April. This is once again being supported by European Drift Championship and Time Attack so should be a great start to the 2007 season.

Also coming up in the next couple of months: PTM Show, Redline Rumble & Modified Nationals.

Widening Participation in Motorsport
‘Whole Sport Plan’ 2007 Consultation Survey

Under the direction and coordination of Motorsport Development UK (MDUK) and Sport England, the Auto Cycle Union (ACU) and Motor Sports Association (MSA) would like to invite you to take part in a survey to establish your views on how to widen participation in motorsport.

The bodies are working together from now until April to develop a new ‘whole sport plan’ for the next 5 years, with the aim of getting more people involved in motorsport at every level, whether that be competing, spectating or volunteering.

The independent sports consultancy Performance Matters (a division of Leisure Partners Ltd.) has been commissioned to lead the consultation process across the entire sport. Performance Matters has conducted similar processes in cricket, golf, equestrian, and has considerable experience of working for national sports agencies such as UK Sport, Sport England, SkillsActive, and London 2012.

The voice of all those who participate, spectate and volunteer in motorsport is vital to the development of this new plan. In addition to this we would like to hear from those who are not currently participating.

The survey is being circulated as widely as possible in order to collate current opinion. It has been designed to be completed in no more than five minutes and to be submitted back to us electronically.

Please contribute by clicking on the link below. All responses are anonymous under the Market Research Society Code of Conduct and should be submitted by a closing date of 16 March 2007.

Thank you for your thoughts.
