End of Season 2006. CruiseSport is working to encourage legitimate participation in motorsport by young people who have an active interest in the modified car sector. This group is a potential new market for motorsport activities and if captured successfully will result in new audiences and participants and new forms of motorsport. CruiseSport is continuing to take part in cruising events across the UK, in order to access active ‘cruisers’ and to publicise their cruising regulations/legal cruising activities. Since the last Executive Update CruiseSport has attended the Kent County Show, Japanese Auto Extravaganza, Ultimate Street Car, Donny South and D1GB events at both Knockhill and Silverstone. Their attendance at the Kent County Show was to illustrate to the general public the legal aspects of cruising and how it can be safely regulated. The response from both the public and the many exhibitors was very encouraging, with very positive feedback regarding the existence of guidelines for the running of static cruises and touring assemblies and comments from the public keen to see positive action being taken to address issues surrounding cruising. In addition to attending events, the CruiseSport website is a key medium for the CruiseSport team to engage with the cruising community. Recent analysis of the CruiseSport website traffic indicates that CruiseSport is developing a significant presence in the ‘cruising’ community. Over the past two years the website has received over three million ‘hits’ and has averaged in excess of 180,000 hits a month to date, in 2006. CruiseSport is moving forward with commercial partnerships in order to widen its influence and as a result increase its membership. Following publication of the Touring Assembly Guidelines at the LASU National Conference for Local Authorities, CruiseSport has entered into a Joint Venture with streetlifetv, which will run eight nationwide cruise events, demonstrating adherence to and providing advice on these guidelines to local cruise clubs. The events are being branded as the streetlifetv Winter Tour and funding will be provided by commercial enterprises involved in the cruising industry. This is a major step forward for CruiseSport in promoting its legitimate cruising guidelines and establishing joint ventures which could benefit its long-term sustainability. Following ongoing discussions with the MSA, Guidelines for a Touring Assembly were submitted to the Motor Sports Council in May this year. The Council approved the guidelines in early July. The Council has also agreed to the setting up of a CruiseSport Sub-Committee, which will report to their Speed Committee. CruiseSport has submitted nominees to the MSA to represent them on the CruiseSport Committee. Nominations, including representatives from CruiseSport, D1GB and Santa Pod Raceway will be reviewed for approval by the Committee Review Panel. A nomination was also submitted for a licensed MSA Scrutineer to sit on this Committee.
The Jap Show Finale 2006 was certainly an event to remember. With thousands of spectators and racers joining to witness a weekend of amazing engine throbbing Japanese drag strip action. The weekend saw Tim Webster break the European quarter mile record for a four wheel drive car no fewer than 4 times in the GT-Culture Duke Racing Skyline. Saturday saw the record expectedly knocked down to 9.159 seconds, and then 9.0 later on in the day. Everybody was rooting for Tim to finally break the 8 second barrier.

Legal cruising. Around May 2006 cruise sport is going to be holding a meeting with as many councils and police departments across the country. This meeting is to decide a set of guild lines that will need to be followed, for cruisers to be able to hold a meet, If the events don't meet the guild lines the police can make you move on with no arguments. In the last months we have held a couple of small very sucessful trials. Now we need input from as many cruise clubs as possile to make sure that everybody will follow these guild lines. If you would like to be involved in this please add your name and which club you are from in the forum. 2006 Events. Saturday 4th March - Street Life TV Cruise @ Ace Cafe.
